A third-person action RPG or MODA, where 80s rockers are dragged into a cursed medieval world. Bring friends, level up fast, unlock skills through quests and loot, and Prestige for permanent upgrades. Go on runs to complete missions, but just remember dudes, hair spray and fireballs don’t mix!
User impressions will be available when Medieval Darkness officially launches.
This is a Multiplayer Online Dungeon Adventure. A MODA. That means fast progression, mission based adventures, real class roles, and persistent characters and hub towns. It also means co-op is the intended experience. You can play solo and hire followers who fill party roles, but the game truly sings(pun totally intended!) when players form a coordinated group.
Classes are built for team play. Not everyone gets to be the main character. Someone has to heal you after you face-tank a skeleton warlord to impress your friends.
Tanks: Hold the line and control the fight
Healers: Keep the party alive when things go wrong
DPS: Make numbers go up and monsters go away
Templars can tank, heal, or attempt both at once if they enjoy living dangerously. Mages melt faces and whisk the group back to town. Rogues strike hard and vanish. Blacksmiths hit like a hammer and build the tools(and weapons, and armor) the war needs. Zealots heal by hurting themselves and everyone else questions their life choices.
You do not lose progress after a mission. You are building a hero over time.
Levels stay
Gear stays
Skills stay
Mission state reacts to wins and losses. Complete a quest and the darkness recedes. Lose an event and the Darkness grows, making the baddies that much tougher.
Player plots(or player housing) is a place to build up workstations. They will go with you on certain missions.
Once you reach level 10, you can visit a special NPC and Prestige. This resets only your character level to 1 and gives you a permanent upgrade. Gear, skills, spells, and unlocks stay with you. This is not a punishment. It is how legends are forged.
Magic and skills come from play, not from a vending machine.
Trainer quests: See your class trainer in Town hubs for special quests that grant your base abilities.
Rare loot drops: Sometimes training books will drop that give players new skills. Sometimes you might find just the right ingredient to craft that book yourself
Dungeon finds
Boss rewards
World exploration
If you want teleportation or holy fire, you will earn it by doing the work.
Many missions start you off in a neighboring town that needs help... You may need to play defense, because NPCs can die. Settlements can fall. Reinforce defenses, save civilians, and survive assaults. If you slack off, the darkness grows.
The game is fully playable alone with followers who fill class roles, but the intended experience is a group of players coordinating tank, healer, and DPS duties. Co-op makes every win feel earned and every mistake very public.
